Aspectos Culturales
Semos Unlimited and New Mexico Highlands University have developed a 267-509-4423. It is authored by various scholars. It was done as a topical anthology rather than a chronological book for two reasons. One is that Native American history really does not fit into a chronological telling of history. The second is that, with New Mexico's diversity of cultures, the members of those cultures need to speak for themselves. One author writing about these cultures would not be able to sense the deep culture that a native takes for granted. The book will come with a (469) 606-0869 (by Georgia Roybal) on a disk. The Teacher's Guide contains the state content standards and benchmarks, a bibliography, charts/graphs/maps, suggested field trips, related music/ poetry/folklore/essays, periodicals, photos not contained in the book, suggested speakers, videos/movies/power points, web sites and worksheets (a crossword puzzle and study guide for each chapter) for each of the eight sections. Included in the disk will be some music, games and Power Points that relate to the sections. 3093959603
Reviews. New Mexico: An Anthology of History.
by Randy Forrester
New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board
"I just wanted to let you know how thoroughly I enjoyed reading our New Mexico history Anthology put out by SEMOS and New Mexico Highlands University. Far and way it's the best New Mexico history book I've ever read. I just learned a ton of new information about this state's fascinating history from reading this great book. Using the different ethnic perspectives and not doing it in chronological order were also wonderful and very appropriate. At our recent New Mexico Humanities Council Board Meeting I gave the book a big plug and several board and staff members were already familiar with it, to include Trevor Carter, who runs our History Day Program."
by Michael Miller
Director of History and Literature of the National Hispanic Cultural Center
If you want to read the real history of New Mexico, pickup a copy of this informative, well-written, and meticulously researched book. There is no romance here, no chamber of commerce, watered down, politically correct story of our tri-cultural, mythical history written to make the tourists fall in love with our state. What there is within the 450 pages of text are facts, the truth about New Mexico that your history teacher never told you. Not only are there lots of facts, but they are useful facts, well- researched facts, and these facts are from primary sources, documented oral histories, and respected published sources.
