Tax notices will be mailed on November 1st by the Volusia County Revenue Division.

NEW DAYTONA BEACH OFFICE

In other news, we are pleased to announce the opening of our new Daytona Beach office. We have moved from our temporary location on Holsonback Drive to 921 North Nova Road (at the corner of 3rd street) in Holly Hill. Office hours are 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Hurricane Abatement of Taxes (Florida Statute 197.318)

If a residential dwelling or house that is owned and used as a homestead is rendered uninhabitable for at least 30 days due to damage or destruction to the property caused by Hurricane Hermine or Hurricane Matthew during the 2016 calendar year or Hurricane Irma during the 2017 calendar year, taxes initially levied in 2019 may be abated in the following manner:

(a)The property owner must file an application with the property appraiser no later than March 1, 2019. A property owner who fails to file an application by March 1, 2019, waives a claim for abatement of taxes under this section.

(b)The application shall identify the residential parcel on which the residential improvement was damaged or destroyed, the date the damage or destruction occurred, and the number of days the property was uninhabitable during the calendar year that the hurricane occurred.

(c)The application shall be verified under oath and is subject to penalty of perjury.

2018 Important Dates
January 1 Date property values and exemptions are established according to their status and condition.
March 1 Deadline for property owners to file for exemptions and/or agricultural or other classifications.
April 1 Deadline for owners of tangible personal property to file a Form VC-405 return.
June 1 Deadline for Senior Exemption applicants to provide income documentation.
June to July Property owners who want to appeal a denial of exemption, classification, portability, or tax deferral, must file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board (VAB) 30 days after the denial letter is mailed.
Mid August Notice of Proposed Property Taxes (NOPPT) or Truth in Millage (TRIM) notices are mailed to property owners.
Mid Sept. Deadline for property owners to file a petition who want to appeal their property value to the Value Adjustment Board (VAB).
Sept./Oct. Property owners may provide input at taxing authorities' public hearings to adopt a tentative budget and millage rate.
Mid October The Final Tax Roll is certified.
November 1 Tax bills are mailed by the Revenue Division.
End Dec Automatic exemption renewal cards are mailed.
Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Volusia County Property Appraiser is to fairly and equitably discover, list, and value all real and tangible personal property in Volusia County for the purpose of creating the annual ad valorem tax roll in accordance with applicable Florida Statutes and Florida Department of Revenue Substantive Regulations.

Our secondary mission involves assisting our public (citizens, cities, independent taxing authorities and county government) in accessing and utilizing the tremendous real estate/economic database, maps, and other associated information which we continuously maintain and update.
